Common Boiler Faults
Below are some of the more common boiler faults we can fix. If you require more information, then please do give us a call or send us an email.
No Heating Or Hot Water
This can be caused by many boiler faults. This can be anything from a faulty gas supply, no ignition, a control card failure to a faulty diverter valve. It could also be a thermostat or sensor fault.
Radiators Not Getting Hot
This could be air in the system which needs bleeding, a lack of water, your system needs flushing, faults like those for no heating or hot water or a faulty radiator valve or thermostat.
Kettling Or Boiler Noise
Boiler Noise of noises that sound like an old kettle are common in East Anglia due to limescale build up due to hard water. It can damage the Primary Heat Exchanger and cause it to leak or fail. It is possible to replace them or fit a scale reducer to the water feed for the boiler. Sometimes flushing out the boiler is all that is required.
Boilers can fill up with debris caused by limescale or muck in your heating system, there could also be air getting into the system. All these can cause banging noises. If your water pressure is too low this can also cause banging and tapping noises.
No Boiler Ignition
This can be caused by a failed gas supply, a failed thermocouple or a faulty gas valve. It can also be a thermostat or control card issue. Sometimes it can due to the pilot being covered in debris or soot and it needs a good clean.
Leaks And Pressure Loss
If a boiler is losing pressure, most of the time its through the central heating side, although heat exchangers can also leak. A failing pressure relief valve or a broken expansion vessel can also cause pressure loss.
Condensate Drain Pipe Freezing Up
Condensing boilers have a drain that takes water from the boiler and allows it to drip outside into a drain. Sometimes they can, if they are situated incorrectly or are not lagged properly, freeze up causing the boiler to stop working.
Thermostats will generally fail as they get older or become inaccurate. This means that they turn the boiler on and off at the wrong times causing the boiler to endlessly cycle.
Sometimes boilers will develop a leak on a fitting, or the seals have deteriorated over time. Sometimes the PHE can also leak.
Boiler Keeps Turning Off
This can be caused by low water pressure, a blocked condensate drain, the boiler has air in it or the pump has failed along with many other electronic issues.
At HeatPro we can fault find, solve and repair all these issues to get your central heating and hot water back up and running again, efficiently and fuss free.
